There is nothing more disturbing and annoying in summer than high temperature and mosquitoes. High temperature can be conquered by technology, such as air conditioning and fans, but to deal with mosquitoes, up to now, human beings have few effective means. As a result, in addition to the discomfort and pain of mosquito bites, dozens of diseases can be transmitted by mosquitoes, such as malaria, dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever, epidemic encephalitis B, yellow fever, filariasis and kala-azar.

For thousands of years, human beings and mosquitoes have become enemies of life and death. Because mosquitoes evolve longer and survive more effectively than human beings, although human beings have various abilities to eliminate mosquitoes, there is still no way to take mosquitoes. In addition, the problem of environment and biodiversity has also arisen from the relationship between human and mosquitoes. Among them, the most important problem is how to get along with mosquitoes in order to make mosquitoes harmless to human beings and beneficial to ecological balance.

Mosquitoes endanger human health, of course, need to repel mosquitoes and kill them, but improper killing behavior may also cause greater trouble. Human use of insecticides to kill mosquitoes has fallen into classic global controversy - because the use of insecticides such as DDT has led to the ecological crisis of "silent spring", so DDT has been banned worldwide; however, due to the lack of medical care and medicines in Africa, malaria has been difficult to eradicate. The World Health Organization (WHO) has weighed and determined that DDT is used to kill mosquitoes and mosquitoes in high-incidence areas of malaria in Africa.

However, the feedback of the latest research is that in the human mosquito war, the overuse of insecticides will lead to more and more mosquitoes. A recent study published in Ecology by Ed Hamil's team at the University of Utah in the United States shows that Costa Rican mosquitoes have evolved resistance to common chemicals that kill them and other pests. At the same time, mosquito predators (natural enemies) did not keep up with the pace of evolution, resulting in a sharp increase in the number of mosquitoes.

Now, people may agree that the most ideal way is to exterminate mosquitoes by means of science and technology. China has long been involved in such research, for example, the study of genetically modified mosquitoes and the introduction of special bacteria to mosquitoes to sterilize them so as to exterminate certain kinds of mosquitoes that pose great harm to human health and life.

However, the extinction of mosquitoes also raises concerns about future ecological security. One is whether GMOs will be transferred to other species, and the other is whether mosquito-dependent organisms will be reduced or extinct after the extinction of biological chains, resulting in a reduction in biodiversity.

However, another way is to reduce the willingness and ability of mosquitoes to find human food. Lactic acid in human sweat is an important factor for mosquitoes to identify feeding targets. Mosquitoes can sense lactic acid in human sweat because there is a gene called lr8a in mosquitoes. If the gene is also removed by genetic engineering, it is possible for mosquitoes to stop biting people. Now, after removing the lr8a gene from mosquitoes, the activity of such mosquitoes in searching for humans has been reduced by 50%, and the foraging ability of biting humans has been significantly reduced. Such genetic technology is obviously much better than the extinction of mosquitoes, of course, there are certain ecological risks.

For mosquitoes, the best way humans can do at present is to physically repel and avoid mosquitoes and reduce their bites. Using mosquito nets, installing screen doors and windows, removing stagnant water, equipping mosquito killing rackets, using mosquito killing lamps, using cool oil, wind oil essence, garlic, etc., are all effective ways to prevent mosquitoes and repel mosquitoes. In addition, there are also some new anti-mosquito and anti-mosquito tools, such as mosquito lamp, the principle is to lure mosquitoes away from people.

Of course, if we can combine mosquito natural enemies to kill mosquitoes, such as dragonflies, frogs, spiders, mosquito-eating fish and damselflies, the effect may be better.
